Personal tax advice Check you are not paying too much

We review your tax position, correct what is wrong and claim what you are owed, at a fixed fee.

Overview

Many people pay more tax than they need to. We look at your whole position, from tax codes to reliefs, and tell you plainly what is right, what is wrong and what can be done. Straight answers, in writing, for a fee you know first.

Who it’s for

  • Employees who suspect their tax code is wrong
  • Anyone who may have overpaid tax in earlier years
  • Landlords wanting a clearer view of their position
  • Higher earners facing extra tax rules
  • People whose circumstances have recently changed

What we do

  • PAYE review: We check your tax code and payslips against what HMRC holds.
  • Overpayment claims: Where tax was overpaid, we prepare and submit the claim to HMRC.
  • Missed reliefs: We look for allowances, expenses and reliefs you have not claimed.
  • Higher earner tax rules: We explain the tax rules for higher earners and the tax effect of contributions and timing. We do not give investment or pension product advice.
  • Landlord position: We review rental income and how it affects your wider tax.
  • Written advice: You receive clear recommendations you can act on, not a stack of jargon.

Personal tax questions

What is an emergency tax code?

An emergency code is a temporary code applied when HMRC or your employer lacks up-to-date information, often after changing jobs. It can mean you pay too much tax for a while. We check your code and, if it is wrong, help get it corrected.

Can I claim back overpaid tax?

Often you can. Overpayment relief generally allows claims for up to four years after the end of the tax year concerned. Causes include wrong tax codes, unclaimed expenses and pension relief not applied. We review your records and tell you whether a claim is worthwhile.

What should higher earners look at?

Higher incomes can bring extra rules, such as the tapering of the personal allowance, the High Income Child Benefit Charge and pension contribution limits. The timing of income and contributions can change the tax result, and we explain the tax position clearly. We do not give investment or pension product advice.

Is this different from Self Assessment?

Yes. Self Assessment is the filing of a return. Personal tax advice looks at your overall position, including tax codes, reliefs and planning, whether or not you file a return. Many clients need both, and we agree the fee for each upfront.
